The bike sharing takes off
encouraging figures for the first month of the bike sharing in Rome. From June 13 (the start of the trial in The Town Hall) the numbers speak for themselves: 1,200 members, 3,500 calls to the hotline and 7,500 bikes, mostly taken from the racks, for a total estimate of about 35,000 kilometers.
The new service allows the public to use bicycles, rent them and leaving them in one location to another, without having to return to the starting point.
In 95% of the bikes have been around for less than 30 minutes (time where the service is free). Moreover, according to data, 8 bicycles were abandoned and damaged 5 (both cases occurred at night).
If the results continue to be positive, says the deputy De Lillo, bike sharing will be extended to other areas of the city. For information: Toll 800910658, www.roma-n-bike.com .
